Akira The Don

Akira The Don is a world-famous rap superhero, DJ, producer, songwriter, illustrator, actor, public speaker and celebrated pop polymath based in Hollywood, Los Angeles. This year alone he’s played parties for The Weeknd, Harry Styles, Channing Tatum, David Hasselhoff, Rita Ora, The BET Awards, Nylon Magazine, VMAs, Maxim, Tesla, Surfair, Chevrolet and more, performed alongside Post Malone, Tyga, French Montana, Young Thug and Migos, acted as personal DJ for Kid Ink and Justin Bieber, and failed to provide a booth-invading Miley Cyrus with a plughole for her phone charger.

He’s quickly becoming LA’s favourite open format DJ, nuking crowds on a weekly basis with an inspired and ever evolving live collage of hip-hop, dance music, pop, trap, R&B, and whatever else he feels will best destroy a dance floor at any given moment.

He’s a resident at Bootsy Bellows (Tuesdays), Blind Dragon (Saturdays), and plays regularly at The Roosevelt, Mondrian, Henry’s, and many other wavy night spots.

Raised in the Middle Earthian Welsh mountains, at 16 Akira left home and set off in search of adventure, traveling to London where he formed a rap group, played live with Public Enemy, Soulwax and Pulp, acted in some TV pilots, hosted some music festivals and edited a major music website. He then made his way across the Atlantic to America, and within the month was signed to Interscope records. He has since released three albums, 34 mix tapes (including the first ever online mixtape, ATD1), directed, edited and performed in countless music videos for himself and others (the most recent Akira The Don music video, a reimagining of Kpop star G-Dragon’s Crooked has amassed over 300,000 views and counting on Youtube), produced 3 UK top 40 hits, collaborated live with Andrew WK, Super Furry Animals, Chilly Gonazles, 2ManyDjs and more, performed at and hosted the culture-shifting Morrisoncon convention in Las Vegas, and judged a celebrity piano battle in New York.

In 2014 he formed the party DJ production duo MIDNITEMEN with longtime collaborator Wade Crescent. Their debut music video, KILLER racked up 20,000 plays and countless blog posts in a week when it was released this Summer, and their tracks, sets and remixes have amassed over a million plays on Soundcloud, with their Rae Sremmurd/Aphex Twin reworking alone stacking up 250,000 plays and counting since it dropped to coincide with their Bootsy Bellows residency. They’re currently working on a series of high concept mini-movie music videos, mixtapes, remixes, and their debut LP.
