LISTEN: Nas’ 91 Demo Tape
LISTEN: Nas – Deja Vu
LISTEN: Nas – Nas Will Prevail
Goddamn!
This, ladies and Gs, is Nasty Nas’ 1991 demo tape. The one Russel Simmons shitted on. And bubba, it is GOOD. Seriously good. The 18 year old Nas was fully formed, spitting complex funk about Illmaticism and Crystal half a decade before Jay-Z got on that shit.
Massive props to Blind I For The Kids for liberating this slab of history. Says theys:
Nas was about 18 years old when he recorded most of the tracks that were to be featured on his demo tape. His lyrical prowess was astonishing for a 18 year old kid, but what was even crazier was that he dropped out of school in 8th grade and still managed to be so technically sound with his wordplay and vocabulary. Attribute that to his study of the Five Percenter lessons, the Bible, and the Qu’ran. Long story short, Nas was and continues to be a rebel to America. Grab this piece of history and throw it in the archives for a rainy day when you feel like stunting on someone.
Quite.
