I was at Hyde Park....awesome gig. I wait 7 years or so and then see them twice in one week!

It may not get any better than this so i may put on Thriller and hang myself in one sequined glove.

I took me a second to work out what SFA was, I was thinking "Scottish Football Association".

You know, I think SFA have got a good thing going on - still here, still popular enoughto release Lps and tour, still awesome, still fresh... if you look what happened to most of their peers, they've done astonishingly.

My girl's off to see Blur tomorrow. I shall be working. Jealous much?!

Yeah, as much of a shame it is that they arent appreciated as much as they should be, its probably a good thing they arent overhyped for those reasons.
I always tried to get them into my mate's libraries, and a few times I was rather happy, especially when one of them had pointed out Candylion to me before i'd even heard of it. I was impressed!
They arent too underground though, I often hear "Run Away" on the radio in shops, and they get coverage on whatever bbc radio station operates on the M4 (when I first heard them).
They seriously have some genius songs. "Run Christian! Run!" is one of my all time favourite songs.
Im very interested as to what Gruff's input on Akira's second LP shall be :)

Here here Dan

They are a magnificent band...I have always liked them since the Llaanfair..... ep. They are cruely overlooked by the majority of the press. I think that 'cos they make consistently good albums then they get ignored and the media have a 'Oh another great record by SFA' attitude. If someone like Oasis or Franz ferdinand or some other press darlings make a halway decent album it is all over the place. They have yet to make a bad record yet don't get the kudos of someone like The Cribs or whichever this months flavour is.

This is a band who can get people to buy an album sung entirely in a language they can't understand a word of (Mwng). That and when you throw in Gruffs solo stuff & Neon Neon and also The Peth then it seems there is a bit of a conspiracy. Gruff Rhys has a beautiful voice but is never named as such a great vocalist. No doubt they will be discovered by Mojo or someone when they have spilt up. I don't mind so called iconic bands but for christs sake The Pistols entire rep is based around one album, SFA have made 9 albums!!

Let's start a SFA revolution....mind you I kind of like the way that they haven't got big enough to attract a load of cocks...can't have everything I suppose. I would rather they stayed loved by their core audience than went chasing the masses.

I was there!!!

I too always was and still am a huge Blur fan..I come from Manchester but had to stick with the Essex Boys in the big Britpop (non)war as I had been into them since She's So High came out. My friends were all Oasis bods but I stood staunch and deflected the daily abuse that was thrown at me in my home town. I was an outcast amongst the knuckle draggers. Time will tell who was the greatest band in the showdown. It's not about how many records you sell, not when it's 30 years down the line and some kids will be digging this stuff out like I did with The Beatles, Stones, Kinks etc. The Gallaghers don't exist outside of Oasis except duets with Weller. Albarn has done Gorillaz, The Good The Bad and The Queen, The Monkey opera, Coxon has made many solo albums, Alex has his cheese empire and Dave has become a lawyer & MP. Liam Galagher has made some evolutionary clothes that look exactly like Ben Sherman/Fred Perry stuff and also some Desert boots which are exactly like Clark's ones.

I'm with you Don on the Modern Life era...Young And Lovely was an awesome b side and of course the mighty Popscene's b side Badgeman Brown (bit Syd barrett but who cares).

They were awesome at Glasto as were Madness and The Specials.

I'm off down to Lahndahn tomorrow for the Hyde Park gig. Can't wait. I am not ashamed to admit that I felt emotional seeing Graham back up there with them. I have seen them 18 times since 1991 and they are far and above my favourite band of the modern era (closely followed by the Super Furry Animals).

Blur appreciation over.
