Church. Jeff Wells just posted something typically insightful on the subject ( http://rigint.blogspot.com/2008/06/master-of-our-domain.html )

"So this is my dilemma, and my paralysis. It's not every day you get to spectate the real-time collapse of a planetary civilization and biosphere. (Or, I suppose I should say, I remember a time when it wasn't.) But watching this unfold with fascination feels complicit and worse than if I were blithely ignorant, and analyzing it at this seeming late stage futile and ridiculous. What's important now, what's more important than ever, are the close-to-home matters: being a good father and husband, and learning how to best cushion the crash of our coddled urban lives."

Cheers for the links Kat... Peace Plus Love Am Byth to all.

Is it bad that I've been burying my head recently?

I used to read about 15 newspapers a day from all over the world, scouring for things to write about. I used to go to demonstrations, protests, marches, the lot. I used to be involved, in whatever small way I could be. (Usually as a writer, an editor, a graphic designer, or general office person....)

Now look at me... I still glance at a few newspapers a day, mostly checking the obituaries to see if there's anyone I know. The articles are too much to deal with. It's like I'm afraid that if I read the details about all the shit that's happening, it'll make it really real, really true.

I feel a tinge of guilt for not being on the ground back home, leading up to a historic election. After working so hard on the last two, only to have that dickwad and his cronies steal the damn things, it's just disheartening. But still... I feel I should be there.

Anyway, to wrap this up before dinner burns and I've wasted money we don't have, part of what I've always liked about your music, A, is that you can attach a sense of humour to the political. God knows we'll implode and be useless if we take it all so damn seriously.

We all have to just keep doing what we're doing to survive, to get by, to stay as sane as possible in such a fucked up world.

And that's why I'm going to sit down tonight, have a nice dinner, a few ales, watch some crap TV (I hope Mario gets evicted!), maybe finish a few crosswords, and fret over festival preparations.

That is probably one of the most insightful and truthful things that you have written in some time. Not only are we, as a people, more aware of the declining state of general affairs and the corruption which penetrates our everyday lives, we have also, never been as complacent. Who cares if the mass media has been exposed as a colourful spokesperson for the top minds and businesses in the world? Why should it matter, you can get a big tv, you can get the internet, you can get store cards or waste your time away playing Grand Theft Auto all day. We are satisfied with our distractions, we will happily sit and play whilst the world crumbles around us. Maybe some of us have realised that the fight cannot be won, maybe some of us feel there is still hope, but alas, there appears to be none. Let us who will be undoubtedly be left out of the golden circle take thanks in the fact that we have our minds. As a generation, we have a voice like no other that has preceeded us. We have the platform to exchange ideas, to form alliances, but it will all be in vain. We must merely find a legitamite way to justify our own existance, to take from life what will make us truly happy and not to accept the doctrine that has been forced on so many before us. If we search for it, there is an understanding to be found, some sense to be in this existance. We need to use that knowledge to make the best lives possible for ourselves and our loved ones, let the world burn outside. If you know you have done all you can to make your time on this earth worthwhile, it will not have been for nothing. Sleep well. Colin.
